Seattle

I can’t recall the 10th time or the 30th

Exactly

When coming here was this or that

But I will recall this time

And

What it meant to hear your voice

In Reading, Pennsylvania

As if

You were in the next room

I wanted to tell you about my

Friend

Flying in a small plane this morning

The guest of an amateur pilot

Buzzing

In stout aircraft around Mt. Rainier

Oh the pictures were spectacular

For me

As I remember...

Trudging happily up the glacier

Climbing

Sometimes on rope

I wanted you to know how much

My heart

Soared on the mountain

And seeing it again was like

Music

For my wandering soul

My sober self now back in the city

Following

The monorail to Nordstrom’s basement

The people here so kind and friendly

Seeking

More of the same

I found a favorite shop and picked out

A gift

Then censored my enthusiasm

Choosing instead these words floating

Across

A space of unmeasured consequence
